Tourism & Hospitality Training 2024

The Wolwedans Desert Academy is a vocational training provider accredited by the Namibia Qualification Authority (NQA) and registered with Namibia Training Authority (NTA). The facility is located at Wolwedans in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve (Hardap Region).

The Wolwedans Desert Academy is a Community Development Project, the success of this training programme vests with “the living classroom” approach, a dual system where theory and practical exposure are carefully balanced. 

We hereby invite young Namibians to apply for the next round of training. Applicants need to be passionate about hospitality.

COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION:

This is a ten-month long National Vocational Certificate in Hospitality & Tourism, Level 2 (Q0276), covering both strants- Accommodation Service and Food & Beverage Services.

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 course, the trainee will have the opportunity to apply for the 18-month long Level 3 programme, either in the field of Food & Beverage Services (Q0010) or in Commercial Cookery (Q0011).

Theory and practical training is provided at Wolwedans, hence trainees are expected to stay in the desert for eight consecutive weeks at a time, followed by a two week break in between.

Transport to/from Windhoek to Wolwedans as well as boarding is provided as part of the course.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum: A pass in Grade 10, preferably Grade 12 (Candidates who may not meet these minnimum requirements are encouraged to apply, as evaluations are conducted on merit)
  • English Proficiency and Communication Skills (speak | read | write)
  • Basic Numeracy Skills (highly required)
  • Applicants must be 18 – 30 years of age
  • A positive, can-do attitude and friendly personality (a must in the hospitality industry)

WHO SHOULD APPLY

  • Anyone who meets the above admission requirements
  • Unemployed Namibian youth with “fire in their belly” and a  burning desire to  advance themselves in life
  • Youth with margenalised, vulnerable or socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Applicants from the Hardap and Karas regions
  • Disabled or differently-abled people

WHICH DOCUMENTS MUST ACCOMPANY MY APPLICATION?

  1. A completed online application form
  2. A handwritten motivation letter (why you?) not exceeding one A4 page. (Take a photo of your letter and upload it for online application)
  3. A Detailed CV 
  4. A head and shoulder photograph
  5. A Copy of ID/Passport or any other official form of identification
  6. A Copy of Educational Qualifications
  7. A working mobile phone number

Take Note:

  • A once-off NAD 200.00 registration fee is payable upon admission.
  • A decent hostel accommodation as well as 3 healthy meals are available for all enrolled trainees.
  • A tuck-shop for other daily necessities is available on the premises.
